Title: Associate-UX Researcher - Digital Workplace

The world’s best colleague digital experience. That’s what we deliver. Everywhere. Every single day. American Express’s global employees and contractors (we call them colleagues) are served by an award-winning Digital Workplace team that enables communication, connection, and productivity – and we’re just getting started.

We’re looking to invest in developing new talent in the UX space. For someone who both understands and loves helping product teams really fathom their customers. We seek out dedicated and inquisitive practitioners who find customer’s needs, wants, habits and frustrations endlessly fascinating. Do you think of yourself as perpetually curious?  Do you like people? Do you enjoy seeing others both happier and more productive because of the work you do?  If this sounds like you, we’d love to include you in our product excellence cohort; you’ll team up with product managers, developers, and other UX professionals to better serve our global colleagues and learn along the way.

Who you are:

You are attracted to exploring the mysteries of human behavior and then using your discoveries to help others build better products. You understand different methods of research and when to apply them. You’re confident in your ability to execute UX research methods and learn new processes along the way. Are you thrilled when your efforts enable others to see through the eyes of their customers?  If this describes you in any detail you should apply for this job.

What You’ll Do:

As part of our integrated colleague experience team, you will help our organization shape the best possible experience for our colleagues at American Express. As a developmental position you will hone the skills needed to provide UX research and best practice consulting services to product teams at every stage of their product’s life:  from prototyping and proving out a new product concept, to ensuring continuous improvement of existing products. You’ll use journey maps, interviews, A/B testing and other practices that illuminate the colleague experience and bring insight to those who supply the solutions. Our scope includes home-grown tools, third-party products, support services, and more.

You Have:

  • The ability to lead end to end UX research processes, from recruiting and development, to fielding and data collection

  • The ability to communicate with users, customers and colleges in public speaking and private environments

  • Experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research methods

  • Experience in dealing with customers and users. Hearing and understanding feedback and needs

  • Skill in evaluating and reporting with an understanding of descriptive and basic inferential information

  • Some level of experience with other elements under the UX umbrella; you don’t need to be a unicorn or have any graphic design skills, but you should be able to document the user’s journey, throw together low fidelity wireframes to showcase an idea, and illustrate options with rough sketching.

  • An understanding of the UX umbrella and a desire to develop skills in multiple areas

  • Familiarity with Design Thinking practices

  • Associates degree in relevant field preferred

  • Desire to learn the skills necessary to be successful.  You don’t need a specific number of years in this field or in the financial industry, but we’ll look for evidence that you’ll be both happy and successful as a member of our team.
