This Principal Systems Engineer vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop and grow into a pivotal post at Leonardo. The successful candidate will be provided with the appropriate training to eventually take on the leadership for a large variety of technical activities: providing technical support to the Combat Systems Support sector of Leonardo, with a focus on legacy systems support including the introduction of new technologies into old equipment.

You should have experience in all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and be able to support technical activities on current programmes as well as providing support to develop concepts, requirements, architectures and system designs - taking these forward to implementation, integration, test and evaluation. You would be working on projects associated with both internally funded products as well as products directly deliverable to key customers.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Supporting the Lead Systems Engineer and undertake own tasks as part of wider programme to integrate new sensor/s into an existing mounted optical system.
  • With an element of mentoring, plan, document, undertake and report Integration, Verification, Qualification and Acceptance Testing of the integration of new sensors (IR, TV and Laser Range Finders) into existing optical systems fitted to Air, Land and Sea platforms.
  • Technical aptitude and willingness to learn about legacy systems and the ability to address the challenges of introducing new technologies into old equipment
  • Knowledge of electro-optic systems TI, TV and LRF, stabilised platforms and gun fire control systems
  • DOORS experience for Requirements Management and Verification.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Essential:

  • Experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle, from development and management of requirements (preferably using DOORS) through to acceptance testing.
  • Awareness of Functional analysis and Specification development.
  • The ability to work with other Engineering disciplines and external suppliers/customers.
  • Conducting, analysing and reporting of qualification testing to support design certification.
  • Working knowledge of DOORS for requirements management.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with Electro-Optical Systems; CCTV, thermal imaging, Laser Range Finding.
  • Previous experience working on platform integration systems (Air, Land & Sea).
  • Experience working on Bids & Proposals and knowledge of military and international specifications and standards is highly desirable.
  • Experience of Model Based Engineering approaches, using tools such as Rhapsody, Matlab, and Simulink, would also be an advantage.
