The Opportunity
Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer based at our Southampton or Bristol Site. The role is a hybrid onsite-remote role within the Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) business area. The role will entail dealing with multiple internal and external clients on a project by project basis to develop and deliver world class concept and system designs.

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join the engineering team to cover an exciting and growing large scale military and commercial satellite communications development project. This role will involve being part of an exciting programme, working to deliver key technologies for the future. Working within a multi-disciplined team, you will be responsible for developing requirements, Matlab modelling and contributing to the RF design analysis, integration and test phase. The role will include reviewing, assessing and providing technical guidance throughout the engineering design process.

What you will do
Reporting to the Project Engineering Lead, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for:
Supporting early systems engineering analysis including requirement derivation.
Development of modelling codes (Matlab) for specific RF technical analysis.
Engagement in engineering technical meetings and suppliers.
Being a key team member contributing to the RF and system design as well as the test and integration activities.
Assessment of the design integrity of the design prior to formal design reviews.
Working across the full engineering lifecycle.
Managing all levels of requirements to enable design and development decisions.
Influencing requirements and design decisions
Reporting to key project stakeholders.
Actively supporting knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practice.
Producing effective, accurate and concise technical reports and analysis to support key technical decisions for the programme.
Establishing and maintaining good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT and upwards to the IPT lead and Engineering Leadership
Delivering to agreed performance targets
Supporting the teams working in an Agile manner.
You must be eligible for full security clearance.  
What we are looking for
You should have:
Good understanding of RF communication systems.
Good understanding and demonstrated experience in Satellite Communications networks and terminals
Experience in the design, integration and roll out of Military Satellite Communications Systems - covering space, control and ground segments
Proficient in Matlab and/or other coding languages
Demonstrated experience in RF electronics and design
Ability to produce clear concise engineering documentation
Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Good problem-solving ability.
Good schedule and budget control.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, across multiple sites.
Strong leadership competency but also can demonstrate team working skills.
Knowledge of Engineering lifecycle and business process.
Willingness to travel within the UK and possibly overseas
Due to the nature of our work, you must be capable of achieving full SC security clearance
It would be nice if you had:
 Extensive experience in integrating systems and sub-systems together
Experience of delivering as part of a prime organisation
Experience of using Cameo System Modeler/Rhapsody.
Experience in developing integrated solutions for airborne environments
Experience within system design/system architectures
