JOB DESCRIPTION

Drive the transformation of Consumer & Community Banking as a Principal Domain Architect. Lead the development of forward-looking architecture strategies that foster innovation and modernization. Champion the adoption of advanced technologies, including AI, while upholding the highest standards of security and compliance. Collaborate with senior leaders to shape strategic direction and investment priorities, leveraging your expertise to deliver impactful solutions that advance the business and enhance customer experience.

As a Principal Domain Architect at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer & Community Banking, you are accountable for defining the target architecture for initiatives that cut across multiple products, platforms, and channels.  You will use Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to create clear bounded contexts, domain ownership, and integration contracts, enabling delivery teams to build scalable, secure, and compliant capabilities. You will also shape the modernization agenda—cloud and platform evolution, API/event-driven integration, and AI-enabled capabilities—while partnering with senior leaders across Product and Technology to align architecture with business outcomes.

Job responsibilities

Target architecture leadership

  • Define end-to-end target architectures for Consumer & Community Banking cross-product initiatives, including operating model implications, dependency mapping, and migration strategy.
  • Establish reference architectures, patterns, and guardrails for consistent delivery across teams.

Domain-driven design & boundary definition

  • Lead domain discovery and modeling workshops with Product, Engineering, Ops, Risk/Controls, and Data stakeholders.  Produce clear bounded contexts, context maps, canonical domain language, and ownership decisions (systems of record, decision rights, data stewardship).
  • Define integration patterns and contracts (APIs, events, schemas), and drive adoption across product lines.

Modernization & innovation (including AI)

  • Identify modernization opportunities such as decomposition, platform consolidation, cloud/hybrid adoption, resiliency, observability, and data lineage.
  • Incorporate emerging AI capabilities responsibly—domain-aware copilots/assistants, intelligent document processing, and decisioning support—while addressing governance, model risk, privacy, and security requirements.
  • Partner with engineering teams to pilot innovations, define success metrics, and scale what works.

Executive-level partnership & business alignment

  • Translate business strategy into architectural decisions, sequencing, and investment trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with senior heads of Product and Technology to shape roadmaps, prioritize capabilities, manage cross-product dependencies, and communicate architecture clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

 Risk, resilience, and controls

Ensure architectures meet expectations for regulatory compliance, security, resiliency, data protection, auditability, and embed “secure-by-design” and “controls-by-design” practices in target-state patterns and delivery plans.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Proven experience as a domain/enterprise architect leading complex initiatives across multiple products or business lines.
  • Strong hands-on mastery of Domain-Driven Design (bounded contexts, ubiquitous language, context mapping, aggregates, domain events) and the ability to apply it pragmatically at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and socialize target architectures and drive adoption across diverse engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of financial services/banking domains (e.g., deposits, lending, payments, fraud, servicing, onboarding, channels) and associated regulatory/control expectations.
  • Strong executive communication, influencing, and facilitation skills, including working directly with senior Product and Technology leadership.
  • Strong business acumen: able to frame architecture decisions in terms of customer outcomes, risk, cost, time-to-market, and operational impact.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience modernizing legacy ecosystems (strangler patterns, platform migration, event-driven architectures, API standardization, domain data products).
  • Experience designing and scaling AI-enabled capabilities in regulated environments (governance, model risk, data privacy, prompt/context design, evaluation/monitoring).
  • Familiarity with microservices, Kubernetes, cloud/hybrid patterns, streaming platforms, identity/access controls, and enterprise observability.
  • Track record of building architecture communities of practice and mentoring architects/engineers.
