Description

Be at the core of Heathrow’s Track Transit System (TTS), where you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and optimising the specialist equipment that keeps airport operations running smoothly.

In this hands-on position, you’ll apply a broad, multi-skilled approach across our track transit system and pods. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the reliability and performance of critical assets within a high-demand, fast-paced setting.

You’ll be responsible for delivering both planned and corrective maintenance, while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, project delivery, and asset replacement programmes that enhance operational efficiency and resilience.

Salary: starting from £46,345- 49,584. We are committed to investing in our technicians and supporting long-term career growth. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through a structured pay progression framework, with salary increases linked to the achievement of defined technical competencies and skills.

Shift allowance: £6,624

Shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off

Responsibilities

  • Delivering an exceptional passenger experience by maintaining and optimising Heathrow’s TTS assets. 
  • Carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure assets operate safely and reliably. 
  • Diagnosing faults and performance issues, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing effective solutions that enhance operational performance. 
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, including asset maintenance histories, to drive efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. 
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety by proactively identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and fostering a safe working environment for all. 
  • Championing continuous improvement, promoting best practice and contributing to ongoing operational excellence.

Qualifications

You must hold a recognised multi-skilled, module-based NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification, or a recognised indentured apprenticeship, in a relevant mechanical and electrical engineering discipline.

Examples include a Level 3 EAL or City & Guilds (C&G) NVQ in one of the following areas:

  • Engineering Maintenance (Electrical and Mechanical modules)
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Electromechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering
  • Controls Engineering
  • Electrical Installation (including AM2)
  • Rail maintenance (eg rolling stock, signalling)

Please note that standalone qualifications, such as BTECs or degrees, are not considered equivalent to a practically assessed NVQ. Therefore, they will not be accepted unless supported by a relevant NVQ qualification.

  • Full UK driving licence including the ability to obtain and maintain airside licences and permits.
  • Strong hands-on experience, gained within an engineering environment.
  • Analytical thinking and sound problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise in a complex and fast-paced setting.
