We’re seeking a future team member for the role Senior Engineering Leader to join our ETF Engineering team. This role is located in New York.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of scalable, resilient microservices‑based platforms supporting ETF workflows.
  • Act as a technology thought partner to senior engineering leadership, influencing decisions on platform evolution, AI adoption, cloud strategy, and modernization initiatives.
  • Drive end‑to‑end ownership across the software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through production deployment and support.
  • Balance hands‑on development with technical leadership, including code reviews, architectural governance, and mentoring of engineers.
  • Proactively manage priorities across multiple initiatives, making informed trade‑offs to ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • Collaborate closely with ETF Product and ETF Operations in a POD‑based delivery model to ensure alignment to business outcomes and operational resiliency.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including modular design, observability, automation, performance engineering, and secure‑by‑design principles.
  • Foster a collaborative, team‑first culture focused on accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. 

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of hands‑on experience building enterprise‑grade applications using Java and Spring Boot, with deep expertise across Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Batch, Spring Events, and Spring Boot Actuator.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering microservices‑based architectures, including service discovery, configuration management, API gateways, fault tolerance, and inter‑service communication.
  • Strong expertise in RESTful API design, OAuth2/JWT‑based security, and integration with relational databases using Hibernate/JPA.
  • Extensive experience with DevOps and cloud‑native practices, including Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, or integrating AI‑enabled solutions within enterprise platforms, including applied use cases such as intelligent automation, data enrichment, anomaly detection, or decision support.
  • Experience applying Generative AI capabilities (e.g., LLM‑based services) to improve engineering productivity or business workflows, with clear attention to security, scalability, and control requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience with observability and monitoring using tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Advanced level of experience designing and optimizing transactional systems using Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle, with a strong focus on performance and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated leadership across the full SDLC, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Proven ability to balance innovation with operational stability, ensuring AI‑enabled capabilities meet enterprise expectations for resilience, performance, and auditability.
  • Extensive experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) using JUnit and Mockito.
  • Exposure to Behavior‑Driven Development (BDD) tools such as Cucumber is a plus.
  • Experience contributing to end‑to‑end testing and quality assurance for complex enterprise platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative delivery models.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $127,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. 
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
