About CGI

At CGI, we build secure and scalable cloud platforms that support transformation across some of the UK’s most critical sectors. As a Platform Engineer, you will help design and evolve resilient infrastructure that enables fast, reliable, and secure delivery of mission-critical services.

You’ll work across cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and observability, helping set engineering standards and improving platform performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

This is a hybrid role based in Newcastle.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 and named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times.

We offer a competitive salary, strong pension, private healthcare, and a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching), making you a CGI Partner rather than just an employee.

We are committed to inclusivity and diversity, and proudly support the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant with Gold Award recognition.

Role Overview

As a Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and continuously improve cloud platforms across multiple client environments.

You will work closely with architects, developers, and delivery teams to ensure platforms are secure, scalable, observable, and aligned with engineering best practices.

You will also contribute to platform strategy, automation standards, and engineering excellence across CGI.

  • Ensure platforms meet enterprise security and governance standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical incidents to improve resilience
  • Optimise cloud usage and costs using FinOps principles
  • Contribute to technical bids, strategy, and engineering communities
  • Share knowledge and help improve platform engineering practices across teams

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation)
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with container platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift)
  • Strong understanding of observability and monitoring tools and practices
  • Knowledge of secure, resilient infrastructure design in enterprise environments
  • Experience troubleshooting platform-level incidents
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments
  • Exposure to pre-sales, bids, or solution design work
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
  • Relevant cloud or platform certifications (AWS, Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes)
