JOB DESCRIPTION

Help shape the future of home lending with data-driven insights that influence real product decisions. You will partner closely with Product, Marketing, and Sales to tackle urgent business challenges and deliver measurable impact. This role sits in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment where clear storytelling and strong stakeholder engagement matter as much as technical depth. If you enjoy turning complex data into decisions leaders can act on, you will thrive here.

As a Data Scientist Lead in Home Lending Data & Analytics (Originations Product Team), you will translate complex data into actionable business insights that improve efficiency and customer experience. You will operate as a consulting-style partner—framing ambiguous problems, aligning stakeholders, and delivering clear narratives that support decision-making across technical and non-technical audiences. You will also help strengthen our team’s impact by mentoring others and fostering a culture of innovation and results.

Job responsibilities

  • Identify obstacles to business goals and solve them using advanced analytics and data science methods.
  • Quantify opportunities and tradeoffs to guide prioritization and decision-making.
  • Recognize meaningful trends and patterns in data and communicate them in clear, compelling narratives.
  • Serve as a data expert and consultant to the predictive modeling team by identifying and validating data sources.
  • Advise business and technology partners on data-driven opportunities to improve efficiency and customer experience.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Operations, Technology, Finance, Marketing) to gather requirements and context.
  • Extract and analyze data from multiple sources using complex Structured Query Language (SQL) queries.
  • Synthesize findings with strong data support and deliver insights with quick turnaround.
  • Tailor messages and materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor junior team members and influence leaders to advance strategic initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, attention to detail, and results.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • At least 6 years of experience in business strategy, analytics, or data science.
  • At least 2 years of experience in business management consulting.
  • Strong experience writing queries and procedures in Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, SAS, R, or Alteryx.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories from data and present insights that influence decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Strong critical and analytical thinking skills, balancing attention to detail with big-picture context.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams and levels.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience in mortgage banking or financial services.
  • Experience mentoring or leading teams.
  • Prior consulting experience with exposure to a variety of industries and business challenges.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement and change management.
  • Recognized thought leadership and experience driving strategic initiatives.
  • Experience driving innovation in analytics, data science, or decision support.
