Summary

Working in Commercial Food at M&S means sitting at the heart of some of the most commercially driven, fast‑paced and visible decision‑making in the business. This is where customer insight, trading performance and financial rigour come together to shape how millions of customers shop with us every day.

Our Commercial Food teams operate in a constantly evolving environment - balancing growth, margin, value and innovation at speed. Finance plays a critical role in making this happen, partnering closely with the business to turn data into insight, challenge thinking constructively and ensure bold ideas translate into sustainable performance.

This role is at the heart of our Food on the Move business, one of the fastest‑growing and most exciting parts of M&S Food. We’re looking for a commercially minded Senior Finance Analyst to join the Food Commercial Finance team, partnering closely with the business to drive performance, support growth and enable confident, data‑led decision making.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Owning and driving the end‑to‑end financial performance of the Food on the Move business area, with accountability for the P&L, balance sheet and financial controls.
  • Partnering closely with commercial teams to provide insightful analysis that informs decision making, challenges the status quo and drives shareholder value.
  • Using data, analytics and critical thinking to identify risks, opportunities and performance drivers, joining the dots across trading, costs and investment.
  • Assessing proposed and live strategic initiatives through commercial modelling, business cases and post‑investment reviews, providing clear recommendations.
  • Being a confident voice of challenge, improving financial ownership and acumen across the Food on the Move business, and building strong relationships with senior stakeholders.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with strong commercial acumen and a passion for driving business performance.

  • Experience partnering a commercial or operational business, ideally within Retail or FMCG, with a strong understanding of sales through to gross profit.

  • The ability to communicate with impact, translating financial insight into clear stories and recommendations for senior stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience in commercial modelling, budgeting, forecasting and risk assessment.

  • A proactive, solution‑driven mindset, with the confidence to challenge, influence and hold partners to account in a fast‑paced environment.

What’s in it for you?

Working at M&S means being part of something bigger - helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We’re inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you’ve completed your probation

  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more

  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours

  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future

  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one

  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal

  • Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave

  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services

  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you
