Role purpose
The Database Solutions Specialist (DSS) is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of Oracle Servers databases. This role ensures the optimal performance, security, and availability of databases to support organizational objectives and business needs. As part of the Compute Services & Cloud Team, the DSS will work closely with development teams, system administrators, and other IT professionals to optimize database performance, implement best practices, and troubleshoot issues.

Key responsibilities
Database Design and Implementation
Plan and execute database installations, upgrades, and migrations including cloud ones.
Centralize management and standardization to simplify system administration, improve redundancy and operational efficiency. Collaborate with application developers to design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies.
System Administration
Optimize existing infrastructure to improve performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Implement and maintain monitoring tools to proactively detect and address performance issues. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and other database-related issues.
Monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations to ensure optimal performance.
Security and Compliance
Implement and maintain security best practices. Perform regular updates, patches, and security configurations. Minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.

Maintenance and Support
Provide support for database-related issues and incidents, including on-call support as needed. Monitor database growth and plan for future capacity needs.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to internal teams.
Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Skills
Professional Experience
Proven experience as an Oracle Database Specialist or similar role.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of Oracle Servers architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
Experience with Database as a Service and cloud solutions.Experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and database security best practices.
Experience in query tuning, index optimization, and performance troubleshooting. Familiarity with tools and techniques for monitoring and enhancing database performance.
Cloud Migrations and Centralizations:
Knowledge of cloud-based database services, architecture, and best practices for scalability and performance. Proven experience in migrating databases to cloud platforms. Ability to plan and execute database centralization projects.
Certifications and Additional Skills
ITIL Certification (highly desirable)
Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) (highly desirable)
Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate (highly desirable)

Additional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty,
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
