Summary

We’re looking for a commercially minded Finance Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping service performance across our Business Support Centre (BSC). This is a high‑impact role where you’ll bring insight, structure, and challenge to how performance is understood, communicated, and improved. Working closely with senior business partners and leading a small team, you’ll help drive sustainable efficiency, support transformation across finance in Manchester, and ensure the BSC delivers against both current priorities and future expectations.

All the details

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the creation and delivery of monthly BSC Service Management packs, coordinating inputs from team leads and translating performance data into clear, meaningful insight for business unit partners
  • Analyse BSC performance against internal important metrics, historic trends, and third‑party benchmarks to find opportunities for improvement and understand root causes of variance
  • Challenge and support business partners to drive accountability for end‑to‑end BSC service delivery, ensuring priorities are clearly defined and progress is tracked
  • Manage planning and prioritisation across BSC teams to ensure improvement activity is focused, delivered at pace, and aligned to business needs
  • Lead and develop a small team, balancing short‑term delivery with longer‑term process improvements, ensuring change is delivered in line with the M&S control environment

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent) with experience in a professional services or operational finance environment
  • Strong background in service or performance management, ideally within shared services or client‑facing finance functions (P2P, O2C or R2R)
  • Proven ability to turn complex data into clear insight, using benchmarks and trends to influence decision‑making and drive improvement
  • Confident business partner manager, able to challenge constructively and build credibility across a broad range of business partners
  • Experience leading small teams and managing change, with a focus on efficiency, prioritisation, and return on investment

What’s in it for you?

Working at M&S means being part of something bigger - helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We’re inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you’ve completed your probation
  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more
  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours
  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future
  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one
  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal
  • Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave
  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services
  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you
