The Role: The Senior Financial Planning Strategist serves as a firmwide authority on financial planning topics, helping define how complex planning concepts are interpreted, communicated, and applied at scale. This role sits at the intersection of advice methodology, product innovation, and thought leadership, shaping both internal guidance and client‑facing experiences.
Justification: Expansion and realignment of team to further support newly developed Advisor Solutions department.
Responsibilities:
Act as the internal authority across core financial planning disciplines, including retirement, tax, estate, and protection planning.
Partner with team leadership to define and execute a strategic roadmap for financial planning content, research, and capabilities.
Lead the development of client-facing insights, commentary, and educational materials that articulate Vanguard’s perspective on complex planning topics.
Shape the firm’s point of view on key financial planning topics in collaboration with the Investment Strategy Group and other stakeholders, ensuring integration into Vanguard’s advice framework.
Design and deliver targeted training in partnership with Learning & Development to enhance advisor proficiency in financial planning concepts and strategies.
Represent Vanguard as a trusted voice on financial planning through publications, presentations, webinars, and other forums.
Provide consultation on complex financial planning scenarios to advisors and internal partners.
Mentor and guide planners, strategists, and analysts, strengthening the quality, consistency, and confidence of planning across the organization.
Influence senior stakeholders through clear communication, strong reasoning, and recognized expertise.
Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives that advance the team’s priorities and long-term objectives.
Qualifications
Eight years of experience in the financial services industry preferred.
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
CFP or progress towards required; additional designation in wealth management (tax, estate, insurance, etc.) preferred.
This job requires a regulatory license and/or registration (e.g. FINRA, state, SFC). These will be determined by Compliance based on role-specific duties.
This role is a hybrid position within one of our four US locations: Malvern, PA, Scottsdale, AZ, Charlotte, NC, or Dallas/Fort Worth, TX.
