What We're Doing

Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.

The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The Work

The Systems Engineer will support the Missile Defense Agency’s GMD Weapon System program by performing systems engineering activities across requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification, analysis, and technical coordination. The engineer will work with software, test, cybersecurity, integration, product teams, and customer stakeholders to help ensure system capabilities meet mission, technical, and program requirements.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Support requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, verification planning, and traceability for GWS capabilities.
  • Analyze system-level, subsystem-level, and interface requirements to support design, development, integration, and test activities.
  • Develop, review, and maintain systems engineering artifacts such as requirements documentation, interface documentation, verification plans, technical analyses, trade studies, and design support products.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, test engineering, cybersecurity, integration, and product teams to ensure requirements are understood, testable, and properly implemented.
  • Support system architecture, functional analysis, use case development, operational concept development, and system behavior analysis.
  • Assist with system-of-systems integration activities and coordination across internal teams, external stakeholders, and customer organizations.
  • Support technical issue investigation, root-cause analysis, risk identification, and resolution planning.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, sprint planning, backlog refinement, verification reviews, and customer-facing discussions.
  • Support verification and validation activities by developing verification methods, reviewing test procedures, analyzing test results, and ensuring evidence satisfies requirements.
  • Maintain requirements traceability using tools such as DOORS, Cameo, Jira, Confluence, or similar engineering tools.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to team leads, program leadership, and customer stakeholders.
  • Contribute to process improvements, engineering best practices, and cross-discipline coordination to support program milestones.
