The Opportunity:

PGC & GCOO Tech is an established function within Group Functions Technology to support HSBC in being more customer and colleague centric, driving more shared, common platforms and designing optimised processes covering the full end to end journey. The landscape is unique with the combination of diverse business functions supported and the variety of architecture and service models. Many services are underpinned by SaaS services with some of the world’s largest technology vendors (Incl. Oracle, SAP Success Factors, Service Now, Appian, Google, Microsoft) plus many more niche vendors (Incl. Degreed, Computershare, Gloat, Beezy, Anaplan, Coupa, Diligent).  

Procurement Technology supports the management of approximately USD14bn in annual third-party supplier spend and processes around USD39bn in payments each year (USD14bn to third-party suppliers and USD25bn intercompany), alongside USD200m+ in Travel & Expenses payments. Global Procurement service lines span Sourcing and Category Management, Third-Party Management, Procurement Operations, and Supplier Management. The Global Procurement Change Portfolio is a multi-year transformation programme focused on delivering end-user-centric, resilient processes underpinned by simplified business and technology architectures. It is designed to strengthen control effectiveness, reduce non-compliance, improve architectural resilience, and deliver operational efficiencies.

The role holder will lead the Procurement Technology function and act as a key partner to Procurement teams across HSBC delivering evolutionary and transformation change and technology service assurance, working with regional and global business / technology leads to provide optimised global services adjusted to address regional requirements where appropriate.

This role will lead the transformation of HSBC’s procurement technology and third-party management capabilities, delivering a simpler, more resilient and secure global landscape that improves colleague and supplier experience, strengthens controls, and enables measurable financial and operational benefits.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as the senior leader and overall service owner of procurement estate for HSBC.
  • Continuing to drive the transformation of the Global Procurement technology estate over next 3+ years demising legacy applications to ~15 strategic, globally consistent platforms aligned to Procurement strategy
  • Drive the objectives of the broader technology transformation of delivering Agile and DevOps processes, structures and outcomes.
  • Build a relationship of trust and influence with the Procurement team and build strong relationships with vendors.
  • Partner with GCOO teams to define the strategy and enterprise architecture for all Procurement systems used globally. Understand market trends in relation to services in scope and map innovations to service problems and outcomes across services.
  • Manage production support and infrastructure to be aligned to allow for resilience, control and high-quality performance of systems and processes.
  • Monitor services effectively across the domain and maintain and improve Net Promotor Scores across the technology service.
  • Responsible for technology RTB and CTB budgets for the service line.
  • Remain current on data, digital and emerging trends affecting the Financial Services industry and the broader procurement domain.
  • Implement consistent end-to-end processes, controls and tooling for all third-party types globally, aligned to applicable regulations, policies and frameworks.
  • Report on change delivery and service quality status on behalf of service line.
  • Ensure Technology and operational risks are appropriately controlled in line with Group and business objectives.
  • Working with relevant Regional CIOs and procurement to ensure compliance with all regulatory needs in each operational geography.
  • Ensure all audit findings are effectively addressed with no repeat ‘high risk’ findings between audits.
  • Manage and continually optimise workforce.
  • Drive team engagement and cultural initiatives for the function.  Engage and develop an effective global team through town halls, communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
  • Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand and values.

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • 18+ years of experience in technology leadership with a track record of on time delivery and innovation.
  • Experience of implementing and owning Coupa or another large SaaS solution for a function.
  • Strong data and integration experience and an understanding of APIs.
  • Technology transformation experience of global deployments in a banking environment and expert level program management skills.
  • Knowledge of Procurement, Finance and other banking back-office functions desirable.
  • Track record of DevOps and Agile adoption and optimisation.
  • Strong financial acumen, budgeting and forecasting.
  • People leadership experience. Ability to drive culture change and engagement.
  • Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders with gravitas. Strong communications skills, influencing and negotiation.
  • Excellent written skills with ability to express complex topics and problems effectively.
