We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Product Management – Account Validation & Fraud Mitigation to join our Global Payments & Trade team. This role is located in New York, NY, Boston, MA or Pittsburgh PA.

Summary:

We’re seeking a Director of Product Management to lead BNY’s account validation and fraud mitigation solutions across domestic and international payment rails. This leader will own the strategy, roadmap, adoption, and performance of validation and risk-screening capabilities that operate pre-, in-, and post-transaction, spanning ACH, instant payments (RTP/FedNow), wires (SWIFT/cross-border), and other payment experiences. The role will partner with engineering, data science, risk/compliance, legal, operations, sales, marketing, platform leads, and client teams to design, build, and scale world-class solutions that reduce payment risk, prevent fraud, and improve client outcomes globally.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Set the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for account validation and fraud mitigation capabilities across all relevant payment rails (ACH, RTP/FedNow, wires/SWIFT, cross-border) and channels (APIs, portals, host-to-host, batch).
  • Lead product discovery and client co-creation to define value propositions, success metrics, and outcomes for validation (e.g., account ownership verification, account status, routing validations) and fraud mitigation (e.g., anomaly detection, behavioral analytics, rules-based controls).
  • Build and scale offerings that combine rules engines, anomaly detection, and machine learning models for real-time and near-real-time risk scoring, step-up controls, and dynamic routing/decisioning.
  • Define and manage commercialization plans and GTM motions including pricing/packaging, client segmentation, sales enablement, onboarding playbooks, activation funnels, and usage growth levers.
  • Partner with engineering, data science, and architecture to deliver resilient, scalable, and performant services (microservices, event-driven architectures, streaming, low-latency decisioning, API-first).
  • Ensure strong governance and control alignment with Risk, Compliance, and Legal; incorporate relevant scheme rules, regulatory expectations, sanctions/screening interoperability, and audit readiness.
  • Establish performance dashboards and telemetry for product health (precision/recall, false positive/negative rates, ROC-AUC, latency, throughput, uptime, SLA adherence) and commercial KPIs (adoption, usage, conversion, retention, NPS).
  • Drive continuous optimization of validation hit rates and fraud loss reduction through experimentation, A/B testing, and model/rules tuning; create feedback loops for model and rules improvement.
  • Coordinate with platform/product owners across payments to embed validation and fraud controls into client journeys end-to-end (initiation, pre-processing, authorization, exceptions, and post-settlement).
  • Develop and maintain competitive intelligence across validation, fraud prevention, and cross-border risk solutions; inform prioritization and differentiation strategies.
  • Manage stakeholder communications to senior leadership and external clients; articulate roadmap, delivery status, risk posture, and measurable business impact.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing product team; foster a culture aligned to BNY’s principles: Be Client Obsessed, Spark Progress, Own It, Stay Curious, and Thrive Together.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • 12+ years of product management experience in payments, transaction services, or financial risk products, with 7+ years specifically focused on account validation, fraud mitigation, or risk analytics.
  • Deep domain knowledge of domestic and international payment rails and ecosystems: ACH, RTP/FedNow, wires/SWIFT, cross-border corridors, and associated rule frameworks (e.g., NACHA, RTP/FedNow operating rules, ISO 20022 messaging for wires/cross-border).
  • Proven success building and scaling risk and validation capabilities, including: account validation (ownership verification, account status, routing checks, micro-deposit/alternative methods), rules-based fraud mitigation (velocity, pattern, device/behavioral heuristics, geolocation, sanctions screening interoperability), anomaly detection and ML-driven risk scoring (supervised/unsupervised approaches; model monitoring for drift, bias).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver low-latency, high-availability decisioning services integrated into payment workflows and client channels (APIs, host-to-host, portals).
  • Strong commercialization experience: product positioning, pricing/packaging input, GTM, sales enablement, onboarding/activation, and revenue/usage growth.
  • Data-driven decision maker with hands-on experience designing KPIs/OKRs and analytics dashboards (precision/recall, false positive rates, customer friction measures, adoption/usage funnels).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to translate complex risk concepts into clear narratives for clients, sales, and senior leaders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, computer science, data science, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
