Embark on a transformative career journey as Technical Product Owner at Barclays, where you will where you will lead the ownership of Jira backlogs, user stories, and sprint priorities while contributing to product roadmaps and delivery plans. You will work closely with business stakeholders to translate complex problems into clear requirements and actionable backlog items, ensuring delivery is aligned to value, dependencies, and capacity within Agile teams.

Leveraging your understanding of data platforms and technology, you will collaborate with engineers, architects, and analysts to shape solutions that meet business needs. Operating across teams and domains, you will help navigate competing priorities within a complex environment, while maintaining awareness of governance, risk, and compliance considerations to support effective and responsible delivery.

To be successful as a Technical Product Owner, you should have experience with:

  • Hands-on ownership of Jira backlogs, user stories, and sprint priorities.
  • Experience contributing to product roadmaps and delivery plans.
  • Ability to prioritise work based on value, dependencies, and sprint capacity.
  • Practical experience working within Agile delivery teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work day-to-day with business stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to translate business problems into clear requirements, features, and backlog items.
  • Evidence of working through change impacts with the business and delivery teams.
  • Comfortable operating with guidance on priorities and strategy.
  • Working knowledge of Data Platforms and Analytics environments.
  • Ability to engage effectively with engineers, architects, and analysts.
  • Understanding of how data is consumed by the business and translating this into delivery needs.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience working across multiple delivery teams, domains, or stakeholder groups.
  • Familiarity operating in complex organisational or matrixed environments.
  • Evidence of handling competing priorities and partial ownership boundaries.
  • Exposure to working in regulated, risk led, or control heavy environments.
  • Experience preparing content for, or engaging in, governance or assurance forums.
  • Awareness of how delivery decisions interact with risk, compliance, and controls.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role can be done from Knutsford or Northampton, with a hybrid working model of working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Purpose of the role

To collaborate with product owners and other technical teams involved in the product development process and utilise their knowledge of the bank’s technologies to enact the vision defined in the product roadmap. 

Accountabilities

  • Provision of subject matter expertise to support the collaboration between the product owner and the technical side of product development.
  • Support the development and implementation of the product strategy and vision defined in the product roadmap and communicate them with the relevant stakeholders and the development team.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather and prioritise product requirements and features based on business value and feasibility that are well defined, measurable and secure.
  • Development and implementation of assessments to ensure continuous testing and improvement of product quality and performance.
  • Monitoring of product performance to identify opportunities for optimisation that meets the banks performance standards.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve product development and delivery.

  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
