Embark on a transformative journey as a Network Security Engineer - VP. At Barclays, our vision is clear — to redefine the future of banking and craft innovative solutions. In this role, you will play a senior technical leadership role in designing, delivering, and continuously improving advanced network security controls that protect our enterprise against evolving threats. You will operate as a hands-on subject matter expert across critical network security platforms, embedding security by design and zero trust principles while enabling safe, predictable change at scale in a highly regulated environment. As a VP level engineer, you will influence platform architecture, engineering standards, and security outcomes across the global network estate, with clear ownership and visible impact. Production Network Engineering operates within the Network Product Design & Engineering domain at Barclays and is responsible for the design, build, and run of strategic network infrastructure platforms and connectivity services. In this role, you will partner closely with infrastructure, cloud, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to engineer secure, resilient services, drive modern engineering practices through automation and Infrastructure as Code, and act as a senior technical escalation point for complex security design and delivery challenges.

To be successful as a Network Security Engineer - VP, you should have experience with:

  • Deep hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating enterprise scale network security solutions across domains such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, proxy services, remote access, network access control (NAC), and network segmentation

  • Considerable technical depth in network security engineering, with the ability to lead complex designs, review implementations, and assure outcomes in on premise, hybrid, and cloud environments

  • Proven experience driving automation and engineering efficiency using Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)

  • Ample understanding of security policies, standards, and technical baselines, with accountability for consistent implementation and continuous improvement across environments

  • Experience operating within rigorous change, risk, and control governance, including contribution to audit, compliance, and operational reporting requirements

  • Advanced incident and problem management capability, including leading root cause analysis and remediation of security vulnerabilities and systemic issues

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Experience acting as a senior technical advisor to stakeholders on secure design, risk tradeoffs, and strategic security decisions

  • Experience improving platform health, resilience, and operational integrity through metrics, automation, and continuous improvement

  • Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, AWS or Azure Security, or equivalent, considered an advantage

This role is located in our Whippany, New Jersey office.

Minimum Salary: $170,000

Maximum Salary: $230,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the role

To develop, implement and maintain solutions that support the safeguarding of the banks systems and sensitive information.  

Accountabilities

  • Provision of subject matter expertise on security systems and engineering patterns.
  • Development and implementation of protocols, algorithms, and software applications to protect sensitive data and systems.
  • Management and protection of secrets, ensuring that they are securely generated, stored, and used.
  • Execution of audits to monitor, identify and assess vulnerabilities in the banks infrastructure/software and support the response to potential security breaches.
  • Identification of advancements in to support the innovation and adoption of new cryptographic technologies and techniques.
  • Collaboration across the bank, including developers and security teams, to ensure that cryptographic solutions align with business objectives, security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Development/ Implementation and maintenance of Identity and Access Management solutions and systems.
