HSBC Innovation Banking (HINV) has a clear ambition to be the #1 Global Innovation Bank. HINV is uniquely positioned to connect the fastest growing, most innovative companies globally – to new markets, revenues and talent. HINV can leverage proven best practice from the rest of CIB, to capture the full potential of the highest priority corridors. The US>UK corridor remains the largest single corridor for international revenues within HINV, and represents a significant incremental growth opportunity. The SVP, US Corridor will drive inbound revenues from the US to the UK – helping our clients achieve their international ambitions.

  • Originate and win new UK subsidiary relationships from US-headquartered technology and life science companies expanding into, or scaling within, the UK market
  • Partner proactively with US-based Global Relationship Bankers (GRBs) to identify pipeline opportunities, seamlessly capturing UK opportunities from existing US parent clients
  • Cultivate a strong external referral network within the UK and US innovation ecosystems, including Venture Capital funds, law firms, tax advisors and tech accelerators

What you can expect to be doing:

Manage and grow a UK subsidiary portfolio of VC-backed Technology & Life Science companies headquartered across the US. Deliver sustainable, returns enhancing growth from existing clients and winning new business.

Develop and execute the US inbound corridor strategy for the UK, advocating delivery of HSBC’s international network and capabilities.

Originate and pitch new business through needs-based sales, drive revenue growth, build pipeline, maximise financial returns and manage complaints, escalations and risks.

Ensure HSBC delivers customer experience and appropriate products and services which understand, meet and exceed customer needs as well as deliver fair outcomes.

Engage and influence senior stakeholders including Senior and Executive Management in Innovation Banking, CMB UK and CIB US.

Act as a visible ambassador for UK-US cross-border collaboration internally and externally (incl. law firms, funds and trade organisations); build networks across Group offices to enhance profile and cooperation.

Collaborate effectively across HSBC (Global Business, Global Products, Global Functions; CMB UK; CIB US; HINV etc.) to deliver best-in-class client outcomes.

Assess and manage operational and regulatory risks, considering market conditions, legal/regulatory requirements, operating practices and technology impacts.

Be recognised as a thought leader on UK business matters; provide practical advice, guidance and coaching.

Organise and deliver events such as workshops, seminars, roadshows and presentations; support local event planning and trade mission coordination where relevant.

Requirements:

  • Experience in front line roles, managing complex client relationships with international needs, sales, credit experience or equivalent. Ability to coordinate complex RFPs and global pitches
  • Proven ability to build close working relationships with Global Relationship Bankers (GRBs)
  • Extensive knowledge and proven sales success with bank products and services
  • Strong understanding of Risk, including credit and financial crime, and proven ability to role model best-in-class risk behaviours
  • Ability to coach, develop and support junior colleagues – and coordinate deal teams from across different departments and geographies
  • Experience in working with senior stakeholders in a global environment
  • Ability to interact and build trust and credibility with relationships at all levels of seniority including internal and external stakeholders
  • Previous experience of working overseas is preferred
  • Ability to set and manage own agenda, while ensuring alignment with stakeholder priorities
  • Detailed knowledge of how US companies operate, particularly regarding international expansion
  • Knowledge of how VC-backed or Innovation Economy clients operate
  • Knowledge of Trade Finance, Payments & Liquidity, Global Markets, Wealth & Private Banking and other banking capabilities
