Mercor is seeking experienced **Legal Aid / Staff Attorneys** to support a short-term AI evaluation project focused on civil legal services. In this role, you will review AI-generated legal analyses involving housing, family law, consumer protection, and related civil matters, providing structured feedback to improve the quality, accuracy, and practical usefulness of legal AI systems. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys with hands-on experience representing individuals and families through legal aid organisations, nonprofit legal services providers, or public interest practices. * * * ## Responsibilities - Review AI-generated legal analyses for legal accuracy, completeness, and practical applicability. - Evaluate hypothetical scenarios involving: - Housing and landlord-tenant law (evictions, subsidised housing, foreclosure) - Family law (custody, child support, domestic violence, protective orders) - Consumer and debt matters (collections, garnishments, bankruptcy, predatory lending) - Identify legal inaccuracies, procedural issues, missing considerations, and jurisdiction-specific nuances. - Provide clear, structured written feedback to improve AI-generated legal reasoning. - Apply practical courtroom and client advocacy experience when evaluating responses. * * * ## Required Qualifications - Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. - Active U.S. bar admission in good standing. - 3+ years of experience practising civil legal services. - Demonstrated expertise in one or more of: - Housing law - Family law - Consumer protection - Debt defense - Foreclosure - Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. * * * ## Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Legal Aid organisations or nonprofit legal services. - Familiarity with jurisdiction-specific civil court procedures. - Experience representing vulnerable or underserved populations. - Experience reviewing legal work products or supervising junior attorneys. - Interest in legal technology or AI-assisted legal workflows. * * * ## Why Join Mercor? - Help improve next-generation AI systems designed for legal reasoning. - Work on realistic civil legal scenarios that have meaningful access-to-justice applications. - Collaborate with leading AI research organisations on cutting-edge legal technology.
