Senior Software Engineer, Merchant Activity and Data Engineering

As the industry undergoes a disruptive shift driven by Agentic surfaces and new AI technologies, Google Shopping stands at a pivotal moment. As a part of the Shopping data platform, you will manage billions of product offers from millions of merchants as these offers are served across various Google surfaces, including Ads, Discovery, Search, YouTube, Gmail, Shopping tab, and Maps and represent a major revenue stream for the company.
In this role, your team is responsible for the centralized platform used to define, implement, and distribute the organization's primary data products for all Shopping use cases as Google teams and external merchants navigate the global AI revolution, providing fast and precise data sourcing essential for strategy development and accurate headroom analysis.People shop on Google more than a billion times a day - and the Commerce team is responsible for building the experiences that serve these users. The mission for Google Commerce is to be an essential part of the shopping journey for consumers - from inspiration to to a simple and secure checkout experience - and the best place for retailers/merchants to connect with consumers. We support and partner with the commerce ecosystem, from large retailers to small local merchants, to give them the tools, technology and scale to thrive in today’s digital world.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
• Experience designing high-throughput data processing systems and data analytics pipelines using SQL, Go, and C++.
• Experience managing data workflows through Dreampipe and Flume.

Responsibilities:

• Write and test product or system development code.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
