As a Data Science Manager at M&S, you will lead and develop a talented team of data scientists to deliver high‑impact analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions that support operational and colleague‑facing products across the business. Acting as a trusted bridge between data science and business teams, you’ll translate real‑world challenges into well‑defined data science problems, shaping solutions that deliver clear, measurable value. You’ll enable delivery end‑to‑end, from problem definition through to deployment and ongoing performance, while championing best practice in data science and agile ways of working. Alongside this, you’ll play a key role in developing team capability and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Who you are

  • Lead and develop a Data Science team to deliver high‑quality analytics, ML, and AI solutions that support operational and colleague‑facing products.
  • Enable the delivery of data science use cases end to end, ensuring solutions address real business problems and deliver measurable value.
  • Translate business requirements into well‑defined data science problems, aligned to M&S priorities and decision‑making needs.
  • Champion excellent data science practices, ensuring solutions are scalable, well‑documented, and production‑ready.
  • Contribute to building a best‑in‑class data science culture, promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What you will do

  • Provide strong day‑to‑day leadership and coaching to Data Scientists, supporting technical growth, career development, and a positive learning mindset.
  • Plan and prioritise work effectively, balancing demand across multiple initiatives through clear resource planning and workload management.
  • Guide the team on appropriate methodologies and ML/AI techniques, embedding robust testing, validation, and monitoring into all solutions.
  • Work closely with product, data engineering, analytics, and MLOps teams to ensure solutions are seamlessly integrated and supported in production.
  • Communicate clearly with non‑technical stakeholders, explaining complex concepts simply and demonstrating the business value of data science outcomes.
