Description

Verisk's ISO loss costs and robust statistical data have empowered the P&C industry for decades. New technology promises to help insurers operationalize this data in new ways. For example, natural language chat can augment legacy reports and dashboards. Agentic workflows can help solve repetitive, manual processes. And users can take advantage of semi-structured data across multiple data sources more easily than ever. You will help make this possible for our client insurers.

Achieving this reality requires leaders who can imbue the thoroughness, accuracy, and expertise that the insurance industry demands. We've already proven this is possible: We recently launched an MCP connector exposing our underwriting intelligence.

We are seeking a leader to own this initiative full-time. You will turn early proof points into a roadmap that is regularly delivering new excellence to our customers.

Responsibilities

The Team

You will report directly to our Head of Insights and Actuarial Transformation (who is an actuary), on a team focused on the user experience for our actuarial and data products. We expect 1-2 direct reports for this role (also actuaries) to support these initiatives. This position is hybrid from the Jersey City, NJ office or remote from elsewhere with an expectation of working Eastern Time Zone hours.

This role sits at the intersection of our powerful actuarial data, our operational teams who produce the data, and our developer teams who help ship the data through customer-facing infrastructure (including emerging AI technology). You will be the lead stakeholder who ties it all together and ensures we deliver valuable capabilities for our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Own the AI & data transformation roadmap for ISO loss costs and related data. Set realistic, well-scoped deliverables and timelines for how our data gets exposed to and consumed by AI systems.
  • Scope and design the actuarial workflows and data logic that get built into AI-facing and customer-facing tools. You will help create new components and automation that help customers realize value from our loss costs and related data. Your understanding of actuarial and insurance product workflows will make the "intelligence" behind our AI tools smarter and more precise. You will help ensure our solutions are not merely nice-to-have but are adding meaningful value.
  • Reduce friction for data consumption. Build solutions that plug into a variety of AI architectures and ensure that Verisk’s specialized intelligence is maintained throughout.
  • Bridge operational and technical teams. Work closely with the teams that build our core data assets and the teams that maintain customer-facing infrastructure, so both are building toward the same architecture rather than in parallel.

As the world of AI is new and fast-moving, you are not expected to be a technology expert. The role, however, demands you to be an insurance expert. You will make sure that the workflows are built to empower the people that drive success in our industry. You will bring actuarial rigor, use programming creativity, and fill knowledge gaps through collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related major.
  • At least 4 - 6 years of P&C actuarial experience with a focus on pricing or underwriting functions required.
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) preferred. Exam 5 required.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and tools (e.g., R and/or Python, SQL, Excel).
  • High degree of agency and ownership; demonstrated ability to operate independently, drive projects forward with limited oversight, and take accountability for outcomes across the full lifecycle of a process or product build.
  • Familiarity with ISO loss costs and/or ISO data products, circulars, etc. is a plus.
  • Interest or experience in generative AI tools is a plus; candidates should be able to speak to how they've used AI on or off the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under uncertainty and ambiguity. Experience working with complex and diverse datasets and non-standardized processes.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to teammates. Ability to present to audiences and high-profile stakeholders on occasion.

  • Comfort working with external clients and internal stakeholders to advance actuarial solutions to their unique technical problems.

We value people who can foster a culture of actuarial excellence and an appreciation for our industry.
