Our team builds Sage Expense Management, which helps finance teams manage spend from card transactions and receipt collection through policy checks, reimbursements, reconciliation, and accounting integrations. The platform also powers white-label and embedded experiences that banks, card issuers, and other partners offer to their customers.

What We’re Looking For

• You have 8+ years building software and 5+ years managing engineers across multiple engineering teams, including experience developing engineering managers or senior technical leaders.

• Technical depth in backend systems: strong experience with Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and distributed systems, plus enough familiarity with Angular to guide frontend decisions and review work across the product.

• Hands-on engineering judgment: ability to work in the codebase, review design docs and pull requests, debug production issues, and improve performance and resilience.

• Visible leadership in AI-assisted engineering: use AI tools productively yourself, help engineers evaluate their output, and build team-level harnesses and workflows that improve quality and speed.

• Delivery ownership: break complex initiatives into milestones, make sound trade-offs, and maintain high standards for tests, automation, monitoring, and documentation.

• People leadership: coach engineers and managers, give clear feedback, support career growth, and participate in hiring.

• Cross-functional collaboration: communicate clearly with Product, Design, Support, go-to-market teams, external stakeholders, and other Sage Engineering groups.

What to Expect

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role. You’ll remain technically involved while giving engineers ownership, growing the team, and taking responsibility for delivery and long-term product health.

The Impact You’ll Make

• Lead engineering teams building a product used by businesses across 39 countries.

• Stay hands-on across the stack: guide backend architecture and Angular frontend design, review critical changes, and help solve difficult production issues, write code where it matters.

• Build and operate services handling 7 million+ requests per day, with peaks above 1,000 requests per second. Own delivery and reliability from design through deployment, monitoring, and incident response.

• Partner with Product, Design, and go-to-market teams to turn customer needs into priorities and deliver useful features at scale.

• Build trusted relationships with customer and partner engineering teams and other external stakeholders. Work with wider Sage Engineering teams, including Cloud-Ops and Security, to align plans, commitments, and technical standards.
