About the team

Build distributed services, developer tools, and AI-enabled platform capabilities that improve how OCI engineering teams build, test, deploy, and operate software. As a Principal Platform Software Engineer, own major components end to end and apply AI-assisted and agentic techniques to improve engineering workflows, reliability, and software quality.

Description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building platforms and tools that enable engineering teams to build, test, deploy, and operate cloud services at scale. Our team develops distributed services, APIs, developer tooling, and full-stack experiences that improve the developer experience across OCI.

As a Principal Platform Software Engineer, you will own major platform components from technical design and implementation through rollout and production operation. You will work with partner engineering teams to turn developer pain points into reusable capabilities, remain hands-on across the stack, and provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team.

AI-native software engineering is a core part of this work. You will build and evaluate AI-enabled developer workflows and apply AI-assisted and agentic techniques to how software is designed, implemented, tested, reviewed, operated, and maintained, while protecting correctness, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable distributed services, APIs, developer tools, and user-facing experiences for OCI engineering teams.
  • Own major components and features across requirements, architecture, implementation, automated testing, safe rollout, and production support.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify recurring developer pain points and turn them into reusable platform capabilities across development, CI/CD, and operations.
  • Prototype solutions, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and remain hands-on with implementation, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Contribute reusable engineering patterns for testing, observability, security, reliability, and operational readiness.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical direction through design reviews, code reviews, and clear technical documentation.
  • Operate production services, participate in on-call and incident response, and improve automation, runbooks, and incident prevention.

AI-First Engineering Expectations

  • Apply AI-assisted and agentic techniques to implementation, testing, code review, debugging, documentation, operations, and software maintenance.
  • Build and evaluate AI-enabled developer tools and workflows that simplify or automate recurring engineering work.
  • Critically validate AI-generated code, tests, designs, and analysis through engineering review and automated checks.
  • Contribute reusable patterns, interfaces, tests, and documentation that help engineers and AI agents work effectively, while following enterprise security and privacy requirements and using approved tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 to 10+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Java and experience building REST and/or gRPC services.
  • Experience building full-stack software, including backend services and user-facing tools or web applications.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating highly available, scalable distributed systems, with attention to correctness, resilience, and predictable performance.
  • Experience with distributed databases and SQL and/or NoSQL data stores.
  • Experience with modern engineering practices, including source control, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience delivering large-scale services through implementation, safe deployment, and production operation.
  • Experience with production observability, operational automation, incident response, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Ability to provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor engineers, and improve engineering practices through design and code reviews.
  • Practical experience applying AI-assisted development techniques and critically validating generated code, tests, designs, or analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building developer platforms, developer tooling, CI/CD systems, or engineering productivity capabilities.
  • Experience building AI-enabled developer tools, coding agents, or agentic engineering workflows.
  • Experience developing and operating services on OCI, AWS, Azure, or another public cloud.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
  • Experience with multi-tenant services, capacity planning, caching, throttling, and performance isolation.
