What you’ll be doing :

In this role, you will support the delivery of Air projects by developing and sustaining structural engineering capability through team growth and recruitment. You will work across multiple programmes within the Air Sector, which designs, builds, and supports combat aircraft, trainers, and unmanned systems. Structural Engineering plays a key role across the full lifecycle, ensuring airframe integrity and advancing capabilities in people, processes, and technology.

Core duties:

  • Apply fatigue, durability and crack growth expertise across projects
  • Support airframe design and ongoing structural integrity
  • Standardise analysis and drive common toolsets
  • Work with design engineers to ensure integrity in design and service

Essential Skills:

  • Degree in STEM or equivalent aerospace experience
  • Experience in structural engineering, including sizing and fatigue/damage tolerance analysis
  • Knowledge of structural analysis, fatigue, and fracture mechanics methods
  • Experience with tools such as Nastran, Patran, Hypermesh, Abaqus
  • Familiarity with optimisation, dynamics, vibration, and acoustics analysis

The Structures Engineering Team:

We support one of the biggest defence programmes in the World and have responsibility for improving the fatigue and fracture capability right across the Air Sector. BAE Systems designs, develops and supports a wide range of airborne platforms, operating across the World in some of the most demanding conditions imaginable. The Structures Engineer role will allow you to capture and consolidate hard-won knowledge from our fleets, and apply that to our current and emerging products to ensure that BAE Systems remains at the forefront of Structural innovation.
