An exciting opportunity has opened for a Senior Power Engineer to join our Power Supply Unit (PSU) Core Delivery Team in Edinburgh — the group that provides the expertise, direction and technical authority behind every power‑related system on site.

As an experienced PSU design engineer, you’ll help define the power systems of tomorrow. You’ll explore new PSU topologies and emerging technologies in energy storage and conservation, laying the foundations for solutions we’ll rely on in the years ahead. You’ll also support a variety of power‑focused challenges across ongoing programmes, stepping into live issues with a broad understanding of modern power techniques and a readiness to solve complex problems.

You will:
Report directly to a CDT Lead Engineer, participating in a wide scope of PSU and system topologies, power system analysis, power system design.
Provide technical support to the Engineering, Project and PSU CDT Management Teams
Support the Power CDT for full range of power system tests including prototyping, design verification and production support.
Create and review documentation such as circuit & system simulations and associated white papers, test reports, test plans
Work closely with other CDTs and the Design for EMC Team to create earth and grounding diagrams, EMC plans and design stage review material.
Provide design and domain knowledge support to projects, CDTs, suppliers, workshare partners and customers.
Review of System and Sub-System Requirements
Provide support to other members of the CDT, including schematic capture, component selection and derating and simulation of power supply circuitry.
PSU topology analysis
PSU system modelling
Review of current and emerging energy storage materials and energy conservation techniques.
What you’ll bring
In order to be considered for this role you will have previous experience in the design, manufacture, test, integration of PSUs and or power systems. Ideally you will possess a minimum of HND in Engineering or Systems or related technical discipline. You will ideally have knowledge in the following areas;
ACDC and or DCDC switched mode power supply design
Control and interface circuitry
Experience with Mentor Graphics and ideally you will be familiar with a recognised schematic and simulation toolsets like Simetrix, LT Spice and Matlab
Fault diagnosis to component level
Electrical safety
Measurement and instrumentation systems
Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
