Data Scientist / Machine Learning Researcher

I'm currently recruiting for a number of Data Scientist / ML Researchers within a specialist AI, Machine Learning and Research team working on complex, mission-focused challenges.

These roles are within the Strategic Research Group (SRG). The SRG are a team of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI specialists who develop novel AI solutions to mission focussed problems.

In this role you will be responsible for the technical development of AI/ML projects, supporting projects from initial idea scoping right through to final project delivery both in customer and internal domains.

You will demonstrate novel thinking and propose new ideas for solving challenging problems.

This opportunity is available in our Gloucester, Manchester or London team. We don’t require a security clearance to work in Gloucester or Manchester, as we will put you through the security clearance process when you join us.

An active eDV clearance will be required to work on our London site. If you’re interested in London and don’t have an active eDV, we can get you started on another site, with the view of moving you back to London when the security clearance comes through.

I'm interested in speaking with candidates who have experience in some or all of the following:

Core Skills

• Machine Learning, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
• Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP) or Computer Vision knowledge
• Research, experimentation and development of novel AI/ML approaches
• Python development and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow and Hugging Face
• End-to-end model development, training, evaluation and deployment
• Scientific, technical or academic-style writing

Additional Experience of Interest

• MLOps, ML pipelines and model deployment
• Docker, Linux and modern development environments
• Cloud platforms (AWS preferred, although Azure and GCP are also relevant)
• Deploying AI solutions into production environments
• Research publications, conference presentations or advanced academic research
• Technical leadership, mentoring or team management experience (for senior/principal level candidates)
