The SRE Manager leads their team of engineers with a defined technical, product or service mission. This is both a people leadership and technical leadership role, accountable for team health, capability, performance and delivery.



The Manager creates an inclusive, high-performing environment in which engineers develop their craft and deliver reliable, secure, scalable and cost-effective outcomes. They connect engineering excellence with customer and business priorities, balancing product delivery, operational health, technical improvement and sustainable ways of working.



The role works across Cloud Operations and Product Engineering to align priorities, manage capacity, strengthen technical capability and ensure the team delivers measurable outcomes.



This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our Barcelona office.


People and team leadership


• Lead, coach and develop their team of engineers through clear objectives, regular feedback, performance management and career development.


• Build an inclusive culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, learning and engineering excellence.


• Maintain effective recruitment, succession and capability plans.


• Support colleague wellbeing and ensure operational responsibilities remain sustainable.



Technical capability and engineering excellence


• Maintain the skills, standards and technical capability required for the team’s mission.


• Work with principal engineers, architects and other technical leaders to adopt and improve engineering patterns and practices.


• Promote automation, infrastructure as code, continuous delivery, testing, self-service and the systematic reduction of manual work.


• Ensure learning from delivery, incidents and engineering reviews is shared and converted into lasting improvement.


• Encourage informed experimentation while maintaining appropriate security, governance and operational controls.



Product, service and reliability outcomes


• Ensure assigned products, services or technical capabilities are available, secure, performant, scalable, recoverable and operable.


• Establish meaningful measures of operational health, including appropriate service-level indicators and objectives.


• Improve observability, resilience, capacity management, disaster recovery and operational readiness.


• Reduce toil, recurring incidents, avoidable demand and technical risk through engineering and automation.


• Balance reliability, customer impact, risk, cost and delivery priorities using evidence.



Planning and delivery


• Own team-level planning, prioritisation, capacity and allocation of engineers within agreed organisational priorities.


• Balance planned delivery, technical improvement, operational commitments and unplanned demand.


• Work with relevant leaders and stakeholders to clarify outcomes, sequence work and manage dependencies.


• Identify constraints early and recommend practical trade-offs when demand exceeds capacity.


• Hold the team and its partners accountable for agreed outcomes.



Operational leadership


• Ensure effective support, escalation and on-call arrangements for the team’s responsibilities.


• Provide calm leadership during significant incidents and support clear technical decisions and stakeholder communication.


• Promote blameless reviews that identify systemic causes and produce meaningful corrective actions.


• Integrate security, compliance, change and service management requirements into engineering delivery.



Collaboration


• Build effective partnerships across Product Management, Product Engineering, Architecture, Security, Service Management and Cloud Operations.


• Work with Business Partners and leaders to understand demand and provide a clear view of team capacity and capability.


• Collaborate with peer Leaders to resolve dependencies, share expertise and promote consistent practices.


• Represent the team’s capabilities, commitments, risks and results clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
